Flying with Diabetes Supplies
With increased airport security measures, travelers with diabetes should be aware of the following to safely board an aircraft with diabetes medication, equipment, and supplies:
- Notify the screener that you have diabetes and are carrying your supplies with you
- Request a visual inspection before the screening process begins; otherwise, your supplies will undergo x-ray inspection
- Separate your medication and supplies in a pouch or bag
- Medications should be labeled so they are identifiable
- The following diabetes-related supplies are allowed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) through screening:
- Insulin and insulin-loaded dispensing products
- Unused syringes when accompanied by insulin
- Lancets
- Blood glucose meters
- Blood glucose meter test strips
- Alcohol swabs
- Meter-testing solutions
- Insulin pump and insulin pump supplies
- Glucagon emergency kit
- Ketone test strips
